Spring Flowering Bulbs

Spring Flowering Bulbs

Spring bulbs are a joy in late winter and spring, bringing colour and hope to the garden. Whether naturalised in grass, planted in borders or containers, or forced indoors for Christmas, there are bulbs for every situation, and autumn is the time to plant them.

Don't know where to start? You can read about choosing and growing spring bulbs in our advice section.

€4 shipping on bulbs-only orders

You don't have to do a thing. If you only have bulbs in your cart, you will be automatically offered a €4 bulbs-only shipping option at checkout.

Availability and planting | September to November

The planting time for spring-flowering bulbs is from September to November. Daffodils, Crocus, and Hyacinths are best planted earlier (September to October) while Tulips are best planted later (November). They all need to go into ground that is not frozen or waterlogged. As a general rule, plant them three times as deep as their size and make sure they are facing upwards!

You can read about choosing and growing spring bulbs in our advice section or learn more about planting bulbs on the RHS website.

It can also be planted in pots, and makes a lovely posy for the house.

Site: Tolerates some exposure
Soil: Any fertile, well-drained soil
Position: Full sun
Planting period: September
Flowering period: Late winter to early spring
Planting: Depth: 4” (10cm) Spacing: no more than 2” (5cm)
Height: 4” (10cm)
"}

It’s a dwarf daffodil, flowering in early to mid-spring, not quite as early as Tête à Tête. The narrow, sword-shaped leaves are green, the perianth (petals) are golden yellow, with the trumpet-petals a slightly deeper yellow. Daffodil Tête Bouclé can be planted as late as December, but September is far better. Despite its lush, ruffled appearance, it’s a tough little daffodil, and can be naturalised in short grass.
