Double-flowered Furze
A tough, deciduous shrub, Ulex europaeus Flore Pleno has a bushy, ground-covering habit. The bark is brown. It has spiny needles. The double, coconut-scented, golden flowers appear in spring. Double-flowered furze is highly drought-resistant, and is easy to grow in poor, acidic soils in full sun. Good in cottage gardens and also as intruder-proof hedging. It can be pruned every three or four years. Double-flowered furze holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
