This heirloom tulip, ‘Artist,’ opens in a striking blend of vibrant orange and plum, accented with hints of green. As the blooms mature, the colors mellow into soft, watercolor-like shades of olive, lavender, and salmon, giving them a charming vintage appearance. As it has slightly stocky growth habit and shorter stems, Tulip 'Artist' remains sturdy throughout the season, even in more exposed areas. Introduced in 1947, Tulip 'Artist' is among the most celebrated viridiflora varieties and has earned the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Blooming from late April to early May, it grows to about a foot tall, making it ideal for containers and front borders and also makes an excellent cut flower.
