A deciduous suckering shrub, related to our native Elder, but with striking bright red berries.
Fruits are not eaten raw and are quite sour, but are good in cooking and making jam.
Edible white flowers in Spring, a great food source for a variety of wildlife.

Soil: Any moist but well drained, humus-rich soil, will tolerate some damp
Position: Colours best in full sun; tolerates partial shade
