Ornamental Rhubarb - tanguticum

A true statement plant, Rheum palmatum var. tanguticum is a dramatic and architectural perennial, grown for its huge, deeply cut, palmate leaves and towering flower spikes. The foliage emerges with a rich red-bronze flush in spring before maturing to deep green, creating a bold presence in the garden. In early to midsummer, tall spires of reddish-pink flowers rise above the foliage, adding vertical drama and texture.

This ornamental rhubarb thrives in moist, fertile soils and is ideal for borders, damp meadows, or waterside planting. Best suited to larger gardens, it brings a bold, exotic character with minimal care once established.
