Kurile Cherry Brilliant
A dwarf flowering cherry, sometimes known as the Japanese alpine cherry, Prunus nipponica var. kurilensis Brillant is a medium-sized, deciduous, upright, open, multi stemmed shrub with attractive, chestnut brown bark. The long, elliptical leaves with serrated edges emerge rusty-bronze, turning mid-green in summer and red and orange in autumn. In April, single white flowers with pink centres are borne on the bare branches. These are attractive to pollinators and are sometimes followed by purplish-black fruits. If you prefer your Kurile cherry Brilliant as a single stemmed tree, prune immediately after the petals fall for the first couple of years.
