Parthenocissus henryana - Chinese Virginia Creeper

Parthenocissus henryana - Chinese Virginia Creeper

Named for Irish plant-hunter Augustine Henry, Parthenocissus henryana is a large, vigorous, deciduous, self-clinging climber, less vigorous than its popular American cousin, so more suitable for smaller gardens. The foliage in spring and summer is exceptionally beautiful, divided into 3-5 leaflets and a deep, velvety, bronzy green with silvery veins; it colours red in autumn if in a sunny spot, although it will thrive on a north wall. The flowers are insignificant; dark blue berries may follow in autumn. For milder areas, unless given protection in winter. Support until established, and clip away from gutters and tiles regularly. Chinese Virginia Creeper holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
