A Division 2 (large-cupped) daffodil, Narcissus California is a tall, spring-flowering bulb, nearly 100 years old – an oldie but goldie (literally). The narrow, sword-shaped leaves are green, the perianth (petals) are a clear golden-yellow, and the trumpet is more than a third their length and a slightly deeper yellow. In March and April, tall stems carry a single, elegant flower. Daffodil California can be planted as late as December, but the earlier the better. Good for naturalising in grass.
