This is Corsican Mint, called after its native stomping grounds in Sardinia. A tiny, creeping cousin of our common Garden Mint that will stay very close to the ground, with microscopic mauve flowers in July and August. It likes damp sites, which is good news as it will cover the darker, wetter parts of your garden happily, all the while giving off a beautiful peppermint scent when trodded, not unlike pennyroyal. It will tolerate some traffic, so consider using it to line walkways or in between stepping stones. Easy to grow in containers as well, should you like to have some close to the window, as Corsican Mint is also used in cuisine, most famously as the flavouring in crème de menthe.
