Magnolia Daphne

Magnolia Daphne

A small tree, not for the frostiest areas, Magnolia Daphne is a deciduous tree with an upright habit. The foliage is long, ovoid and olive-green, with buff-coloured down on the underside. In mid-spring, tulip-shaped, pale yellow flowers appear; they can be reduced to brown rags by a sharp frost, but more flowers will follow; the tree is, however, very hardy. This tree is ideal for planting in city and courtyard gardens, or in architectural gardens, as the tree has a very striking shape. Magnolias should be pruned in midsummer, when in full leaf. Propagate by softwood or later-greenwood cuttings from late spring to early summer, or semi-ripe cuttings from midsummer on. Magnolia Daphne holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
