Ilex integra x aquifolium

Smooth-Leaved Hybrid Holly

An exceptional evergreen hybrid combining the best traits of Asian Mochi tree (Ilex integra) and European Common Holly (Ilex aquifolium). This architectural shrub or small tree features dense, lustrous dark green foliage that is virtually spineless, making it ideal for planting near pathways or borders. In late Spring, small greenish-white flowers attract pollinators, developing into bright, long-lasting red berries on female specimens that persist through Autumn and Winter to provide vital winter colour and wildlife interest. Exceptionally resilient and wind-tolerant, it thrives in full sun to partial shade across a wide range of well-drained soils, offering a soft-textured, low-maintenance alternative to traditional prickly holly hedges and specimens.
