Hosta Guacamole

Hosta Guacamole

Also known as plantain lilies, hostas are grown for their beautiful foliage and delicate flowers. Hosta Guacamole is a very desirable, clump-forming, herbaceous perennial with puckered, strongly veined, heart-shaped leaves, subtly yellowish-green margined in deeper bluish-green. The yellow tone is strongest in full sun, which the plant will tolerate in reliably moist soil. In July and August, the plant bears large, exceptionally fragrant, lavender to white flowers on slender stems held high above the foliage; the flowers are particularly long-lasting for a hosta. Protect against slugs and snails, and, if grown in pots, against vine weevils. Remove dead leaves at the end of the growing season, and mulch in spring to conserve moisture. Hosta Guacamole holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
