A diminutive, dwarf shrub for the smaller garden, Genista lydia is a small, deciduous shrub, with an arching, rather trailing habit. The tiny leaves are mid-green. Terminal clusters of bright yellow, pea-like flowers are borne in June. This a very drought-tolerant shrub, suited to dry courtyard and cottage gardens, and, as a legume, makes its own nitrogen and tolerates very poor, sandy or thin, chalky soil. Lydian broom holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
