A familiar sight on the highways and byways of West Cork, Fuchsia originated in Chile and Argentina and the selection riccartonii was raised in Scotland and is now naturalised here. It makes a great deciduous hedge, covered with an abundance of its famous, pink & red flowers, which persist long through the Summer. It will take what the Atlantic ocean throws at it and can be pruned hard if required, sprouting again from where it is cut. Great on its own or mixed with other flowering shrubs. Great coastal hedge, but not suited to very cold midland areas. Holds the RHS award for garden merit. Attractive to bees.
As this plant is grown from cuttings, there can be variations in the habit and structure of the plant, depending on where the cuttings are taken from.
