Eucalyptus parvula (parvifolia)

Kybean Gum

One of the hardiest and most adaptable of the eucalypts, Eucalyptus parvula is a good choice for colder areas and wet, poorly drained or even alkaline soils. It’s a tall, quite slow-growing, evergreen tree which develops a large crown with a semi-weeping habit, although it can be grown in containers if regularly pruned by pinching out new growth. The bark is grey and white, peeling attractively in the upper branches. The leaves are smaller than those of most eucalypts; the elliptical juvenile leaves are green, and, unusually, are often borne in the crown of the tree, while the mature leaves are grey-green and lance-shaped. Masses of white flowers are borne in summer, very attractive to pollinators. The kybean gum holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
