Diselma archeri

Tasmanian Dwarf Pine

Native to the cool, subalpine regions and high plateaus of Tasmania, this rare, slow-growing evergreen conifer brings unique textural interest to shaded garden spaces. It forms a compact, upright or spreading bush, with gracefully arching branches clad in tiny scale-like leaves that overlap tightly against slender twigs, creating a delicate, fern-like appearance. The foliage holds a deep, lustrous olive-green hue year-round, often taking on subtle bronze tones in cold winter weather. Disliked by deer and virtually maintenance-free, it is an great specimen for bringing a sense of prehistoric charm to cool, moist garden microclimates.
