A stunning, large-flowered clematis, Clematis Warszawska Nike (Warsaw Victory) is a fast-growing, deciduous, self-clinging, herbaceous perennial climber, ideal for an arbour or pergola, or encouraged through a large shrub rose or climbing rose. The tripartite leaves are rich green, and the flowers are a rich, velvety, plum-purple with a boss of creamy stamens. This clematis can easily be pruned as a Group 3 clematis, cutting right back to two fat buds 6-8”/15-20cm above the ground in late February or early March, in which case it will flower from July to September. However, it can also be pruned as a Group 2 clematis, cutting back congested, dead or damaged stems to two healthy buds, and in that case it will have larger blooms and start flowering in late May or June, with a smaller flush in September. Give a feed, water and a good, rich mulch after pruning. Clematis Warszawska Nike holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
