Perennial Cornflower Amethyst Dream
A long-flowering perennial cornflower introduced about 10 years ago, Centaurea Amethyst Dream is not so much amethyst in colour as a rich rosy-purple. It’s a spreading, mat-forming, herbaceous perennial with an upright habit and grey-green leaves covered in fine silvery hairs. From May to September scaly buds open into flowers like cornflowers, with widely-spaced, feathery, purple petals surrounding a deeper purple centre. Deadhead to keep the flowers coming. Perennial cornflower Amethyst Dream may need staking in exposed spots.
