Apple Munster Tulip

Apple Munster Tulip

An Irish heritage variety of dual-purpose apple, Apple Munster Tulip was first recorded as growing in Co. Offaly in the mid-20th century. The fruit is round, slightly flattened and evenly shaped, rather pale, yellowish with deeper yellow or light red blushing on one side. The flesh is firm and cream-coloured. The flavour is very sharp, and it cooks to a tart purée, but many like cooking apples, it mellows somewhat as it ripens in store, and can then be eaten as a dessert apple. Vigorous tree, spur-bearer.

This Irish Heritage Apple variety was originally saved and propagated by Irish Seed Savers in Scarriff, County Clare.
