An old culinary apple, bred in Cheshire in the mid-19th century, Apple Lord Derby is a particularly good choice for cold, wet areas. The fruit is large, round to conical, and green, turning yellow; the flesh is white, soft, and dryish, keeping some of its shape when cooked, and with a good, sharp flavour. Does not keep for long, and flavour is lost as the fruit turns yellow. Vigorous, upright, spreading tree with beautiful deep pink blossom. Spur-bearer. Good cropper, with particularly good resistance to scab, canker and late frosts.
