Apple Keswick Codlin

A very old 2nd early culinary variety, still popular today, Apple Keswick Codlin was found in Lancashire and introduced by a Keswick nurseryman. The fruit is medium to large, long and angular, sometimes with a distinctive ridge up one side, and pale green to pale yellow. The flesh is yellowish-white, juicy and soft, with a good, tart, ‘apple-y’ flavour, cooking to a froth; as it ripens it becomes sweeter, and can then be eaten fresh. Smallish tree, upright and spreading, and a reliable, heavy cropper, though with a tendency to biennial bearing. Spur-bearer. An easy tree to maintain, and a good choice for colder, damper areas.
