A plant with majestic presence, Angelica archangelica is a late flowering native wildflower with exceptional architectural form. Angelica is a bright green biennial with deeply coloured contrasting stems and dome shaped heads of pale yellow flowers which are extremely attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators. Plants produce a small leafy bush in the first year before coming into full form in the second. Prefers moist woodland conditions, often seen growing at the waterside. Garden Angelica is used in wilder or architectural planting schemes and near the back of borders. All parts of this plant have a culinary or medicinal use. Useful as a natural sweetener in baking.
