Variegated Kiwi Vine
Often referred to as the Ornamental Kiwi, or Variegated Kiwi, Actinidia kolomikta is a showstopping deciduous climber that looks as though a painter has dipped its leaves in cream and rose-pink paint. This unique, tricolour variegation creates a striking and unusual focal point out of any vertical space it inhabits. The heart-shaped leaves emerge in Spring with a subtle purplish-bronze tint, quickly turning a lush forest green. As early Summer approaches, the tips of the leaves dramatically flash a bright, clean white before flushing into a soft, romantic pink. To add to its charm, the plant produces clusters of small, nodding white flowers in June that emit a beautiful, delicate fragrance. Because it is a twining climber rather than a self-clinging vine, it uses its supple stems to wrap around support frameworks like trellises, pergolas, or wire setups. It has a slightly more compact and manageable growth rate than other kiwi varieties, making it an excellent choice for adding vertical elegance to smaller gardens, townhouses, or courtyard walls.
