Elaeagnus x ebbingei

Elaeagnus x ebbingei

Adaptable, vigorous evergreen shrub with silvery grey-green leaves. Elaeagnus x ebbingei makes one of the best coastal hedges and is considered a front line coastal shrub. The dense bushy habit also makes it an ideal evergreen hedge for inland gardens. Insignificant but highly scented flowers appear in Autumn and edible berries in the Spring. It is fast growing, extremely salt tolerant and will grow near the water's edge. Fully hardy, it will also grow inland and can take shade. It will grow in poor soils but does require free-draining ground and will not do well on damp sites.
