Crataegus pedicellata

Scarlet Hawthorn

A fantastic Hawthorn. Crataegus pedicellata ( syn with Crataegus coccinea) has long dark thorns and the familiar white hawthorn flowers in May, followed by deep red conspicuous berries that hold on the tree for a long time or until the birds get them all. The leaves are different from our native Hawthorn and can turn lovely shades red / purple in Autumn and as you would expect from any Hawthorn it tolerates poor soils. Makes a great hedge.
