Vinca minor Atropurpurea

Purple Lesser Periwinkle

Ideal for shady corners, banks or slopes, Vinca minor Atropurpurea is a low, mat-forming, evergreen perennial with long, spreading shoots, rooting as they go. The slightly pointed, ovate leaves are a deep, matt green. Pretty, single, deep plum-purple flowers bloom from April to September. Purple lesser periwinkle is a very easy, adaptable plant which will grow virtually anywhere, though flowering best in full sun. It spreads to form weed-suppressing ground-cover, but is not as invasive as greater periwinkle; cut back any unwanted shoots in spring.
