Japanese Stewartia
Camellia-like white blossoms with glowing golden-yellow stamens make Stewartia pseudocamellia, the Deciduous Camellia, an outstanding architectural specimen trees for acid soils. Opening sequentially from mid-to-late Summer, the cup-shaped, silky flowers offer a striking display when few other trees are in bloom. As Autumn arrives, its dark green leaves transform into a fiery spectrum of bronze, crimson, and deep orange-purple. During Winter, its smooth, polished bark flakes away in smooth, jigsaw-like puzzle pieces of salmon-pink, cinnamon, and cream, providing year-round aesthetic interest in sheltered settings.
