Rosa x odorata Mutabilis - Old Shrub Rose

Rose Mutabilis

A stunning, almost continuously flowering China rose, Rosa x odorata Mutabilis is a medium-sized, deciduous, shrub rose of average vigour with a rather lax, open habit and slender, almost thornless stems. The divided leaves and shoots emerge a rich purple, setting off the first flowers wonderfully, and turn green in summer. The charm of this rose is in the delicate, ever-changing flowers, which you forgive for being unscented. From late spring almost continuously into late autumn, tiny buds buds open into single flowers which open buff-apricot, then turn copper-pink and finally crimson. This beautiful rose can be grown as a shrub, or trained as a small climber. It’s a very healthy rose, and will tolerate poor soils and a little shade, but richly repays being planted in the best conditions. Rose Mutabilis holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
