Texas red oak

Occasionally referred to as Quercus rubra var. texana, Quercus buckleyi or Texas Red Oak, is a handsome, highly resilient deciduous specimen oak tree that delivers outstanding seasonal colour and structure. In Spring, deeply lobed, glossy dark green foliage emerges, forming a neat, dense canopy throughout Summer. By Autumn, the leaves transform into a breath-taking, fiery display of brilliant crimson, scarlet, and rich mahogany-red before dropping for Winter. Native to the alkaline limestone hills and rocky bluffs of Texas and Oklahoma, it develops a sturdy, medium-sized habit with smooth grey bark that darkens and furrows elegantly with age. Remarkably tough, heat-seeking, and drought-tolerant, it is a choice specimen tree for drier soils and sunny landscapes.
