Pseudowintera colorata Marjorie Congreve

NZ Pepper Tree Marjorie Congreve

A vividly coloured variant on the species, Pseudowintera colorata Marjorie Congreve was discovered by Ambrose Congreve at Mount Congreve in Co. Waterford. This small, slow-growing shrub has an upright habit. The elliptical leaves on reddish stems are shrimp-pink and pale yellow, edged red. In April and May, small, cup-shaped, greenish yellow flowers appear, followed in autumn by small red berries, later turning black. Only for milder areas. Particularly valuable in winter.
