Prunus Shogetsu (Oku Miyako)

Ornamental Cherry Blushing Bride

One of the most beautiful Japanese flowering cherries, Prunus Shogetsu (Moonlight on Pines), also known as Oku Miyako (Blushing Bride) and Shimidsu Miyako is a small, deciduous tree, with a broad, gracefully spreading crown, often wider than it is tall when mature. Masses of large, double, white flowers up to 5cm across, hanging from long stalks all along the branches, open from pink buds in May. The leaves start bronzy-green, turning light green in summer and showing good orange tints in cold, sunny autumns. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
