Prunus serrulata Kanzan

Flowering Cherry Kanzan

A medium-sized, vigorous, deciduous tree, Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’ is one of the most popular ornamental cherries, valued for its spectacular spring display. It has a broad, vase-shaped habit and is particularly striking when in full flower. The leaves emerge bronze-red, turning green in summer before developing rich orange and copper tones in autumn. In mid to late spring it produces masses of large, double, deep pink flowers borne in dense clusters, making it an excellent focal tree. Best grown in full sun to ensure the strongest flowering display. ‘Kanzan’ is a Japanese cultivar introduced to the West in the early 20th century and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
