Plum Coe's Golden Drop

Plum Coe’s Golden Drop

A very old (1800), Suffolk-bred, late dessert plum, Prunus domestica Coe's Golden Drop has a luscious gage-like flavour derived from its Green Gage parent. The relatively large fruit is oval, pale gold freckled with red, with tender, juicy, yellow flesh and a superb flavour with a hint of apricot, perfectly balanced between sweetness and acidity. Best eaten straight from the tree, it will, unusually for a plum, keep for a few days in the fridge, and can also be used for a delicious golden jam. Not a heavy cropper, it needs good conditions to crop well, and may do best fan-trained against a warm wall. As plums have a short flowering season, choose another group 2 plum to pollinate it. Prune only in summer.
