Prunus avium Plena

Double Gean Cherry

A beautiful tree with double flowers, Prunus avium Plena  is a deciduous tree, with a spreading habit. The ovate leaves are mid-green, turning red and orange in autumn. The double, pure white flowers are held in hanging clusters, and appear in spring. This is a low-maintenance tree, needing minimal pruning, but can be subject to cherry blackfly and the winter moth caterpillar, and silver-leaf disease. Prune in midsummer of silver-leaf disease is a problem in your area. Good in a wildflower meadow or cottage garden. Double gean holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
