Prunus Amanogawa - Flagpole Cherry

Ornamental Cherry Amanogawa

A small, narrowly columnar, deciduous tree, Prunus Amanogawa is an ideal flowering cherry for the smallest garden, rarely growing wider than 8’ (2.5m). The leaves emerge bronze, turning green in summer and orange and red in autumn. Masses of slightly almond-scented, semi-double, pale pink flowers in late spring; needs full sun to flower well. Also known as the Milky Way (Amanogawa) cherry, it was introduced to Europe in 1916, by Ernest ‘Chinese’ Wilson. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
