Parthenocissus quinquefolia Yellow Wall

Virginia Creeper Yellow Wall

Quite a new cultivar of Virginia creeper with unusual autumn colour, Parthenocissus quinquefolia Yellow Wall is a very big, exceptionally vigorous, fast-growing, woody, deciduous climber, which climbs by means of suckers. The perfect site is a very large brick or stone wall – small structures will be rapidly overwhelmed, and the suckers find it hard to cling to very smooth surfaces. The mid-green, five-fingered leaves with serrated edges turn a rich, golden yellow in autumn. The insignificant green flowers are followed by small blue-black fruits which provide food for birds. Cut back Virginia creeper Yellow Wall if it gets near gutters, windows or slates, and be aware that it will root along the ground from trailing stems – this is a very vigorous plant which needs keeping in check, although it’s otherwise very easy to grow.
