Molinia caerulea Moorhexe

Purple Moor Grass Moorhexe

An attractive cultivar of the native purple moor grass, Molinia caerulea subsp. caerulea Moorhexe is a clump-forming, deciduous, perennial grass of average vigour and a compact, upright, narrow, rather soft habit. The upright, slightly arching leaves are grey-green, turning rich russet in autumn. From late July to September, narrow, airy, purple-brown flower spikelets appear above the clump of leaves on very slender stems. Cut back in late winter before new growth appears. Purple moor grass Moorhexe is lovely grown with low perennials like achilleas and asters.
