Apple Irish Pitcher

Apple Irish Pitcher

Once commonly grown in the west of Ireland, particularly Sligo and Mayo, Malus domestica Irish Pitcher gets its name because it is said to strike readily from slips or ‘pitchers’. It is a large dessert apple, pale green flushed with red. It is juicy and crunchy, with a good flavour, and can also be used for cooking. Because it flowers late, it is good in colder areas, and is well adapted to wetter parts of the country.
