Fagus sylvatica Purple Fountain

Weeping Copper Beech Purple Fountain

A weeping form of the popular copper beech, Fagus sylvatica Purple Fountain is a slow-growing, medium-sized, deciduous tree with a slender, upright habit; pendulous branches droop from a central leader, some reaching the ground, some growing more capriciously. The leaves emerge red-purple, turning a purplish-green in summer and bronze and yellow in autumn. Inconspicuous catkins in May are followed by beech-mast – paired nuts in a bristly cup. Weeping copper beech Purple Fountain holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
