Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus

Box-leaf Spindle

A small, slow-growing form of the Japanese spindle, Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus is an evergreen shrub particularly useful in the aftermath of box blight as a substitute for box hedging. It clips very well, and is perhaps even more attractive than box, having bright new growth and more richly coloured leaves. Absolutely worth a try in formal gardens ravaged by box blight or box caterpillar, but perhaps not for the coldest areas. Makes a great low seaside hedge.
