This deciduous Hawthorn has so many great merits. Crataegus prunifolia has an unusual glossy oval leaf, long thorns and the familiar white flowers in May that are followed by extra big, deep red berries that persist on the tree for a long time. The leaves on the Plum Leaved Hawthorn often turn a lovely orange-red in Autumn and it has the toughness you would expect from a Hawthorn. It clips well, will take poor soils and a lot of coastal exposure. Great on its own or makes a super hedge. We have seen this growing right on the coast. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This tree is a favourite of ours.
