Corylus avellana Medusa

Corkscrew Hazel - Medusa

A more compact and intensely twisted relative of the classic 'Contorta', Corylus avellana 'Medusa' is a striking deciduous shrub named for its serpent-like, undulating stems. This variety is prized for its slower growth habit and more dense, architectural form, making it a perfect choice for smaller gardens or large decorative containers. While it shares the same wild English heritage as the original Corkscrew Hazel, 'Medusa' offers a more dramatic winter silhouette. In early spring, the bare, twisted branches are draped in pendulous golden-yellow catkins, followed by crinkled dark green leaves that turn warm shades of yellow in the Autumn. Its highly ornamental wood is a favorite for high-end floristry and indoor winter displays.
