Campanula muralis (syn. Campanula portenschlagiana) is a charming, low-growing perennial that forms a dense, cascading mat of small, heart-shaped green leaves. In late spring through summer, it becomes covered in a profusion of starry, violet-blue bell-shaped flowers that brighten rockeries, walls, and borders with cheerful colour.
This vigorous and easy-to-grow bellflower is ideal for edging paths, or filling gaps between paving stones. it is particularly attractive planted into walls – do this in mid-autumn, so it can benefit from winter rain to establish. Be aware that it can spread quite widely, so don’t place it on a rockery near small, delicate plants. It thrives in well-drained soil and is particularly well-suited to sunny or lightly shaded spots. A great choice for adding long-lasting colour and attracting pollinators to the garden.
