Blackcurrant Ebony
A standout, modern dessert variety bred specifically for eating fresh from the branch, Blackcurrant Ebony produces some of the largest, sweetest berries of any cultivated variety. Unlike traditional culinary types that carry a sharp, astringent edge, its glossy dark fruits develop exceptionally high sugar levels, offering a rich, mild, and juicy flavour without requiring added sugar. Clusters of modest, greenish-white flowers emerge in mid-Spring, followed by heavy trusses of plump, dark purple-black berries that ripen from early July. Showing strong natural resistance to powdery mildew, it maintains attractive, aromatic tripartite foliage right through Summer until dropping in late Autumn. It is an outstanding choice for kitchen gardens, productive fruit borders, and large patio containers.
