A new cultivar of this cottage garden favourite, Astrantia Moulin Rouge is a herbaceous perennial with a clump-forming, bushy habit. The pretty, dark green leaves are deeply lobed and form an attractive clump at the front of the border. From June to August, and sometimes into September, pretty red ‘pincushion’ flowers on a green centre surrounded by very deep red bracts rise on wiry stems above the clump, and are loved by bees and butterflies. Masterwort Moulin Rouge is one of the deepest red cultivars, and is also good as a cut flower.
