Aralia elata | Japanese Angelica Tree

Angelica Tree

Like Aralia spinosa, this Aralia can also be known as the devils walking stick. Native to parts of Asia including Japan, Korea and China. A large deciduous shrub or small tree ( its trunk never gets too big ). It produces large bi pinnate leaves with thorns coving much of its stems and trunk, making it a plant you handle with care. Large panicles of lacy, creamy-white flowers in late Summer, followed by small blackish fruits, much liked by birds. Aralia elata tends to sucker and can forms clumps, which is why it is sometimes called the walking tree.
