Raised by Laxton’s of Bedford in the early 20th century, Apple Lord Lambourne is a good mid-season dessert apple, particularly suitable for gardens, even in cold, wet areas. The fruit is particularly attractive, medium-sized, round, and greenish-yellow, liberally streaked and stippled with red; the flesh is creamy-white, crisp, juicy and aromatic, with a good balance of sweet and acidic, sweetening if left on the tree to ripen fully. Not a good keeper, but he fruit holds well on the tree for weeks, extending the season for those with limited storage space. Compact, healthy tree, a slow grower but reliable, and a good cropper. Partial tip-bearer – not suitable for trained forms. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
