Apple Jonagored
Developed in Belgium as a superior, red-skinned sport of Jonagold, Apple Jonagored is a late-season dessert variety prized for its exceptional flavour and superb cropping reliability. The fruit is medium to large, flushed dark red, with firm, crisp, aromatic cream-white flesh. Rich, honey sweetness is balanced by refreshing acidity, giving a complex flavour ideal for fresh eating or juicing. A vigorous, moderately spreading, spur-bearing tree, Jonagored is notably heavy-cropping and produces more consistent yields than Jonagold. It performs especially well in cooler regions and stores extremely well, keeping its flavour and texture for several months when properly stored. It has some susceptibility to scab and canker, so more suited to less damp sites.
