A very early culinary apple, Apple Grenadier is widely grown in gardens for its good flavour and ease of cultivation. The medium-to-large, flattened, ribbed fruits are yellowish green, cooking to a pale, sharp purée with excellent, ‘apple-y’ flavour. The tree is compact, hardy, and particularly tolerant of wet climates – a good choice in the west. Heavy cropper and an excellent pollinator. Spur-bearer, with good scab resistance. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit – the only snag is that it’s not a keeper.
