Bred at East Malling Research Station in Kent in 1965 from Apples James Grieve and Golden Delicious, Apple Falstaff is a late season dessert apple, suited even to cold areas. Medium-sized fruit, yellowish green flushed and striped red; crisp, firm, juicy creamy-white flesh with an excellent flavour and a good balance of sweetness and acidity. Moderately vigorous, upright, spreading tree, reliable, easy to grow and a very heavy cropper. Comes into bearing early. Spur-bearer. Frost-resistant, self-fertile blossom, and an excellent pollinator. Some susceptibility to scab, but generally healthy. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
